Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. — JOHN 15:4-5
Setting one of our DNA statements above the others is tough, but if we had to do it we would make it this one. The importance of abiding in Jesus cannot be overemphasized—everything else seems to flow from this. In teaching us to abide Jesus gives us a beautiful analogy that well describes the reality. We are grafted in to Him when we become believers, we are adopted, we draw our life from Him and because of that relationship fruit results.
