Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

-Exodus 20:8-11 (ESV)

From the very beginning of earthly time, the notion of ceasing and resting was built into the structure of our days. Sabbath is a time set aside for us to rest and be renewed through worship and communion with our Maker. Our world and our very souls are wrapped up in hurry and restlessness and worry. In this digital age it seems we have access to everything, everywhere, all the time. In the midst of that crowded life, the act of ceasing and being still is an act of rebellion and revolution. And that revolution can lead to profound change in all areas of life.
